ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ  KSO

We are reaching out with an important update and request to the Kannada language learners across Ontario and Canada

FYI - Attachments has some finer details

We are currently collecting Expressions of Interest from students who will be entering Grades 9 or 10 in September 2026 and are interested in taking Kannada as a High School Language Credit Course eligible for university admission requirements.

After nearly 1.5 years of continuous effort, we are now at a crucial stage. The Ottawa-Carleton District School Board (OCDSB) has requested us to demonstrate sufficient community interest so the board can move forward with approvals and potentially launch the course starting September 2026.

We are happy to share that we have already received interest from 16 students in Ottawa, and we are now reaching out across Ontario and Canada to build stronger momentum.

This initiative is not just about introducing a course — it is about:

• Preserving and promoting Kannada language and culture• Giving our children an opportunity to earn high school credits while learning Kannada• Creating a lasting legacy for future generations of Kannada learners in Canada

Adult learners are also welcome to express their interest.

Important Timeline:We have a very short timeline and need to submit names by May 25th so the school board can review the proposal within this month. Therefore, we kindly request interested families to respond by May 24th

If interested or if you have any questions, please email:kannadaschoolottawa@gmail.com

Please include the following details:• Full Name• School Name• Grade as of September 2026• City and Province of Residence

Kindly note:This is only an Expression of Interest at this stage. There is no commitment or registration required right now. Once the course receives approval, further details and next steps will be shared with interested participants.

Please refer to the attached flyer and the PDF containing current OCDSB language course offerings for additional information.

We sincerely request every family and community organization to:

• Share this message widely• Forward it to friends and community networks across Ontario and Canada• Encourage direct outreach to families who may be interested• Help us reach every Kannada-speaking family — or anyone interested in learning Kannada — who may benefit from this opportunity

Together, let us show the strength, unity and pride of our Kannada language and help make Kannada language credits a reality for our children in Ontario schools.

Thank you very much for your support and encouragement to Ottawa Kannada Shaale (OKS)

Best Regards

Srini Rangan
